Bible-Based Diet Could Be the Key to Lasting Wellness, Say Experts

Across the country, more people are turning to the Bible for more than spiritual wisdom. Many now see it as a roadmap for physical wellness. The idea of eating the way biblical figures did has gained momentum, leading to what’s now called the “Bible Diet.” Supporters believe this ancient way of eating holds the key to modern health challenges.

According to Dr. Josh Axe and Jordan Rubin, the authors of “The Biblio Diet,” eating biblical foods can make you healthier and even reverse long-term health problems. Dr. Axe described the Bible as “the greatest health book ever written,” explaining that it offers natural solutions for issues like heart disease, diabetes, infertility, and even cancer.

The Origin of the Bible Diet

Both authors were drawn to this concept through personal experiences. Jordan Rubin’s journey began in his teens after being diagnosed with Crohn’s colitis and later, severe cancer. Countless doctors failed to help him, but one conversation changed his path. A mentor told him that following a biblical diet, rooted in ancient principles and backed by science, could heal his body.

After forty days on a strict biblical diet that included detoxification, prayer, and emotional healing, Dr. Jordan Rubin’s health improved dramatically. He avoided chemotherapy and radiation and declared himself fully recovered.

Dr. Josh Axe’s story also connects faith with healing. While helping his mother through breast cancer, he designed a plan based on foods mentioned in scripture, such as pomegranate and olive oil. Years later, after suffering a spinal infection, he returned to the same biblical principles combined with regenerative treatments. “I listened to the great physician, not my ordinary physician,” he said, crediting faith and diet for his recovery.

Ancient Foods with Modern Benefits

Food plays a major role throughout the Bible, and both authors believe that the staples of biblical times can still form the foundation of a healthy modern lifestyle.

Some of the core foods include:

1. Red meat – Packed with zinc, iron, creatine, and B6, it’s considered a “superfood.” Rubin noted that many long-lived biblical heroes ate red meat whenever possible.

2. Whole-grain sourdough bread – Once viewed negatively, it’s now praised when made traditionally. Rubin clarified that Jesus was referred to as the “bread of life.” “That wouldn’t make sense if bread were bad for everyone.”

3. Olive oil – A recurring symbol in scripture, it supports skin, heart, and metabolism health.

4. Dairy – Especially from sheep or goats, it’s beneficial when raw and grass-fed.

5. Honey and salt – Raw local honey strengthens immunity, while unrefined salt adds vital minerals.

The principle is simple, eat foods in their purest form, as close as possible to how they were created. Rubin said, “You can make healthy food unhealthy by how you grow, raise, or process it.

What the Bible Says to Avoid

The diet encourages followers to steer clear of foods described as “unclean” in Leviticus, such as pork, shellfish, and shrimp. These animals act as natural scavengers, which means they don’t properly filter toxins.

In addition, the authors warn against modern processed foods like refined sugars, artificial dyes, and high-fructose corn syrup. Even foods labeled as healthy can lose their benefits when overly processed.

In “The Biblio Diet,” they pose an intriguing query: “What would the food laws look like if Moses were alive today?” The authors believe he would advise people to return to natural, unprocessed eating habits.

The Spiritual Side of Healing

The Bible Diet isn’t just about food. It also focuses on spiritual habits that promote emotional and physical health, especially fasting.

Dr. Axe called fasting “one of the greatest healing breakthroughs.” A simple 10-hour fast overnight allows the body to remove damaged cells and fight off inflammation. He said studies show fasting can reverse aging effects and boost longevity.

Rubin added that fasting also brings mental clarity and spiritual strength. He said it deepens one’s connection with God and clears the mind. During his recovery, he combined fasting with prayer and emotional healing, repeating scripture as a form of medicine. Forgiveness, he added, was an essential part of his healing journey.

The authors highlight  that “The Biblio Diet” is not a one-size-fits-all approach. While it’s suitable for everyone, personal health needs may require customization. Dr. Axe noted that the plan allows flexibility and even includes modern favorites like pizza, waffles, and cookies, as long as they’re made with wholesome, Bible-approved ingredients.

Rubin encouraged anyone facing illness to remain calm and hopeful. “Take a deep breath. Believe that God has provided your healing. Seek peace and a second opinion. And most of all, act on what brings you peace,” he said.

Both experts view physical health as an act of worship. Caring for the body, they explained, honors God and strengthens faith.

Interest in the Bible Diet is growing across social media, wellness circles, and faith-based groups. Many are drawn to its blend of divine principles and practical health benefits. Nutritionists are also exploring how ancient eating habits align with modern science.

Followers report more energy, mental clarity, and spiritual focus, describing it as more than a diet—it’s a lifestyle rooted in prayer, gratitude, and mindful eating. Experts say its appeal lies in the harmony of science and scripture, promoting natural foods, emotional balance, and spiritual grounding.

As Dr. Axe notes, true wellness involves body, mind, and spirit. The Bible Diet reminds us that faith and health work best together, leading to strength, peace, and purpose.
